Tiger Woods is the number 1 ranked golfer in the world and he hasn’t played in a tournament since the US Open.  What makes this even more amazing is the how far ahead in the standings he is from everyone else.  In 40 events he has earned 719.67 points.  The number 2 ranked player Phil Mickelson has earned 437.98 in 44 events.  That is an amazing difference.  What makes it more significant is that Tiger has earned 281.69 points in 4 fewer events then Phil Mickelson has.  This is just another example of how Tiger absolutely dominates the world of golf.

In 6 events this year (while injured) he won 4 and was in the top 10 for the other two events.  He has made an astonishing 5.7 million dollars.  To top it all off he is still leading the season long Fed-ex cup race even though he only played in 6 events.

Speaking of Golf Circle City Tickets has tickets to all of the Golf Tournaments in the coming months.  From the Rider Cup to The Tour Championship.  Circle City has your ticket to get up close and personal with your favorite golfers.

LeRoi Moore –

It is a sad, sad day in the Music Industry.  LeRoi Moore the Saxophone player for the Dave Matthews Band died at age 46.  LeRoi was one of the founders of the Dave Matthews Band.  His unique style of staccato fused jazz and funk overtones was a great addition the eclectic sound of the Dave Matthews Band.  LeRoi has not been with the Band for their summer tour, his replacement for the summer was Jeff Coffin who used to play for Bella Fleck and the Flecktones.  Jeff is an amazing saxophonist however he doesn’t have the same smooth sound that LeRoi had.

I was glancing at the USA Today top 25 poll today and I saw that Notre Dame got 5 votes to be in the top 25.  Norte Dame was 3-9 last year and “had the nation's worst scoring offense, allowed an NCAA-worst 58 sacks and were near the bottom in several other national offensive and defensive categories” (espn.com).  Now I understand that teams do improve in the off season, and I understand that ND has one of the top recruiting classes each year.  But how can someone say that they are one of the top 25 teams in the nation before they set foot on the football field?

I am from Indiana, I like Notre Dame, and I hope that they are in the top 25 at the end of the season.  I just think that they need to prove themselves.  I think the only reason why they received pre-season top 25 votes was because they are Notre Dame.

39 acres, Lucas Oil Stadium covers 39 acres of land.  When they open the roof the opening covers 4 acres.  That is a massive building.  To put that in perspective, a city block is between 2-5 acres, the football field including both end zones is 1.32 acres.  There are 43,560 square feet in an acre, so Lucas Oil Stadium covers 1,698,840 square feet.  That is an astounding amount of space.  Now if you assume that the average person needs a space that is 24 inches x 14 inches (about the size of a small file cabinet) to stand comfortably, which is 2.33 square feet of room to stand. Now if you take the number of square feet at Lucas Oil Stadium (1,698,840) and divide it by 2.33 square feet, you get 729,115.87 square feet. Therefore we could reasonably assume that it is possible to fit between 729,000 730,000 standing people within the space that Lucas Oil Stadium occupies.  Of course that number depends on the size and tolerance for close proximity to each other the people have.  Now according to consensus data there are 876,804 people living in Marion County.  This means that approximately 83% of the population of Marion County can fit in the area of land that Lucas Oil Stadium sits on.   Those are some amazing stats.

Lucas Oil Stadium is an amazing building, the size and magnitude of the stadium is unlike anything Indianapolis has ever seen.  My only hope is that on game day it can house the same atmosphere that the RCA dome did.

104! The USA Women’s Beach Volleyball team has won 104 straight games in a row.  104 straight games! This is a feat that is unheard of in team sports.  It is a shame that they are not getting the attention that some of the other great teams have gotten.  The names of Misty may-Treanor and Kerri Walsh should be household names by now. However, since the Olympics only happen once every four years and Beach Volleyball isn’t a “high profile sport” this feat has been downplayed.  Let’s compare the USA Beach Team Volleyball’s dominance over their sport to other great teams of our generation. First, the New England Patriots who after winning 18 straight games and were crowned football gods and had the entire world bowing to there greatness. This is just after 18 games. The tadem of Treanor-Walsh has won 104.  Next let’s look at basketball and the 1995-1997 Chicago Bulls who went an impressive 141-23, winning two titles in that period and they have been proclaimed as the best basketball team ever. Even though this is closer and it is over a shorter time period the beach volleyball team havs won 104 in a row. The '08  Patriots and the Bulls of the mid '90's are the considered to be two of the greatest teams of all time.  However, I think that the USA women’s beach volleyball team of the '00's should top that list.  Not only have they won 104 straight games, they are competing against the worlds greatest athletes and dominating.  Their streak would have been 195 straight matches if they had lost in June.  Since the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece they are 195-1.  With such an impressive streak the USA Women’s Beach Volleyball team is one of the greatest teams ever!

This years U.S.A. basketball has a tall and daunting task, to bring the U.S.A. Men’s Basketball program back to glory.  On the surface this might not seem that difficult considering the N.B.A. is the worlds premiere basketball league. However, digging a little deeper one realizes the difficulty of the task at hand. First, there are 76 international players in the NBA which is 14% of its players.  The players that make up this 14% are not just role players.  Many of the major stars in the NBA today are international.  This impressive list includes: Tony Parker, Steve Nash, Yao Ming, Dirk Nowitzki and the list goes on.  With some of the major NBA stars playing for other countries, the international competition is not the same as that of the Dream Team in 1992.

Another major challenge for the U.S.A. basketball team is moving past the disappointment of the 2004 games.  For the first time in over a decade the USA did not win Gold, to make things worse they didn’t even place.  This disappointment fueled a media firestorm helping to further degenerate an already falling N.B.A reputation.  To make matters worse, in this years games it is the world against the U.S.A.  Every team is out to beat the United States, every team is bringing there best game against them.  This is going to be wearing on the U.S..  However, I believe with the combination of the talent and the coaching staff that the United States has, this is the year.  This is the year when the United States imitates the mythical bird the phoenix and rises from the ashes and returns to World dominance.

Back to the Colts.  However, this time we are going to focus on a different part of the game.  For those of you watching the Indianapolis Colts vs. San Diego Chargers game on Sunday, did you happen to catch the brief recognition of the winners of the punt, pass, and kick competition during halftime?  For those of you who were at the game, I’m sure you remember the incident quite vividly.  As I would put it…it was a prideful moment for not only my team but my city as well.  Let me recap the situation for those of you who missed it:

Every year there is a national competition for children and teenagers to see who is the most dominant in the categories of punting, passing, and kicking a football.  The challenge is for both boys and girls.  So, at the halftime of this year’s AFC playoff game at the RCA Dome, the welcoming city of Indianapolis decided to recognize those winners of the competition and congratulate them.  There is one important piece of information that was vital to the situation.  Each winner of the competition, divided by age groups, chose to wear their beloved team’s jersey while they were being recognized.  So, as the competitors were being introduced, the camera focused on each winner, recognizing them individually.  Each person received a warm applause by the crowd, supporting them and congratulating them for their accomplishments.  However, when the camera focused on one particular girl, fourteen year old Anny Grant of New Hampshire, the crowd did not recognize her in a similar fashion.  Instead of congratulatory applause, she received a most defining “BOO,” and might I add, for good reason.  She came in to our house, the RCA Dome, the home of the Indianapolis Colts, and chose to wear a New England Patriots jersey.  Anyone who follows the NFL, and these children obviously do, would know that the New England Patriots are the most despised team in the NFL.  Not only that, but she just so happened to flaunt her pride in an atmosphere where the word “Patriots” can get a man in a hurt of trouble.

Now the issue has been raised as to what or whom the fans were booing.  It is obvious that the fans were not booing young Anny Grant and mocking her accomplishments as an athlete.  Instead, they were remembering their recent defeat only a few months prior as well as gloating over their domination from the previous season’s AFC Championship.  An individual ridiculously ignorant to the competitive nature of sports commented on this matter by replying to an article in TheStarPress.com.  “Devery” wrote, “It doesn't matter what they were booing - it was tasteless and classless. Thank God she is more mature than the fans booing her. She was sponsored by the Pats and was wearing their jersey. Again, it was shameful behavior and I am so glad she was as mature as she was and dealt with the situation beautifully. She must have a wonderful support system. Most kids her age wouldn't have been able to deal with that kind of negatively. She is truly an impressive kid.”  Come on!!  What an absurd response.

First of all, Anny even told reporters that, “It didn’t bother me at all…I knew what it was for. I just laughed along with it; thought it was funny,” (www.wthr.com).  So, the sympathy card that everyone seems to be throwing at this girl needs to stop.  Young and innocent Anny Grant knew exactly what kind of environment she was entering and therefore deserves every kind of response she received.  I do not care how young you are, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, wears a New England Patriots jersey into the Indianapolis Colts’ house and gets away with it.  “Anny, I’m sorry you were the recipient of the boos.  But, you got what you deserved.”  Anyone that displays that kind of absurd loyalty to a team and coach that defaces the name of the game should be showered with boos every time they touch their jersey.

Second, what is with this showering of gifts upon this girl?!  The Patriots I can understand.  If they sponsored the girl, they should find it necessary to coddle and corrupt this young misguided teen, continuing to possess her mind making her think their team is respectable.  But what is Indianapolis doing?  We have since offered her tickets to come back to Indianapolis to sit in VIP seating at our beloved Indianapolis 500!  I see two wrongs with this situation.  First, the young girl is invited back.  And second, she is showered with gifts.  How absurd!  Our fans’ actions at the RCA Dome were no way shameful.  In fact, our governor Mitch Daniels should have been the first to congratulate the Colts fans and the first to give young Anny a boot back to her homeland.  Well, that may be a little harsh.  But, I will say, the girl got what she deserved.  This statement is not up for debate.  Case closed.

So, the Indianapolis Colts are done.  The RCA Dome has seen its last day.  But, did any of you watch the game this past Sunday?  In the words of our dear friend from Waiting for Guffman, "Wu hoppen?"  We had the #2 pass defense in the NFL!  We had Bob Sanders, the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year!  As quoted in his national bestseller Quite Strength, Tony Dungy says that he lives by the motto, "No excuses, no explanations."  I respect Coach Dungy and agree with almost everything he says and does, but MY WORD!!!, I want an explanation for what happened!  After a few days of recuperation and alone time, I have finally been able to move on.

As I gaze upon the horizon of next year's season, I can not help but notice the subtle but defining rays of potential and hope.  Almost all of the starters for the Indianapolis Colts should be returning.  Not to mention that the Indianapolis Colts are moving next door into the most intimidating stadium ever built in the history of the world...the Lucas Oil Stadium!  The only dark part of the horizon is the possibility that Coach (That's Tony Dungy for all of you fair weather, ignorant, or apathetic sports fans) is possibly going to retire.  I empathize with you; my stomach drops, too, when I even mention the possibility.  He was the foundation for our lean mean intimidating fighting machine known as the Indianapolis Colts.  Until Monday, when Coach announces his decision, I will wait nervously as if I was 10 again and it was Christmas Eve for 4 days in a row.  But, if our foundation stands firm and Coach decides to stay, we will be the fiercest fighting force the NFL has ever seen.  And, I will go on the record now as claiming the Indianapolis Colts the Super Bowl XLIII Champs.  This statement is not up for debate.  Case closed.
